But regulations have changed and, very soon, you will only be able to ride legally if you have an <strong>compulsory civil liability insurance<\/strong>. In this article we explain when and how this new law affects you, and how PIB Group Iberia can help you to be protected before the obligation comes into force.<\/p><h2><strong>What does the new regulation on electric scooters provide for?<\/strong><\/h2><p>As of June 2024, a <a href=\"https:\/\/revista.dgt.es\/es\/noticias\/nacional\/2024\/06JUNIO\/0603-Seguro-patintes.shtml?utm_source=chatgpt.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">BILL<\/a> which considers electric scooters as <strong>light personal vehicles<\/strong>, The Commission has also introduced a new law, requiring them to carry liability insurance, as other motor vehicles do.<\/p><p>In addition, a national public register of these vehicles should be set up by the end of the year. <strong>2 January 2026<\/strong><\/p><p>So are the regulations:<\/p><ul><li>Requires type approval and identification plate on all scooters (VMP certificate). The deadline for adaptation is <strong>22 January 2027<\/strong><\/li><li>Imposes speed limits (max. 25 km\/h), ban on headphones or passengers, use of helmets and lights according to local regulations.<\/li><\/ul><h2><strong>When will it enter into force and what are the deadlines?<\/strong><\/h2><p>The law was passed in July 2025. Once it is published in the BOE, owners will have <strong>six months<\/strong> to take out compulsory insurance.
