The Organization of Consumers and Users (OCU) conducts an annual survey to assess the satisfaction of Spaniards with the treatment they receive from their insurance companies, both in the event of a claim and with respect to the price paid for their policies. Specifically, it has been carried out on auto, health and home insurance. Let’s take a look at the results.
OCU’s insurance analysis
According to the OCU, almost 13,000 members answered these questions. It is a figure that gives us a good picture of how policies are working and whether companies are really serving consumers as they demand.
There are some results that are surprising, in our opinion, such as, for example, loyalty to insurance companies. According to 2017 data, 34% in home insurance and nearly 50% in health insurance, have been with their company for more than 10 years, without changing.
Auto insurance, the most popular
Let’s take a look at some interesting data:
- 61% of them have given at least one report in the last 5 years.
- 55% of customers are considering switching to a different company
- 21% of policyholders have had discrepancies with the company regarding repair or indemnification
In other words, we can see that, in general, there is considerable dissatisfaction in the treatment of the auto insurance company (the average score is 55 out of 100), with more than half of the policyholders being willing to change at maturity.
Health insurance generates high satisfaction
Let’s look at statistics on health insurance:
- 39% of OCU members who responded have a health care policy.
- The average policy term is at least 6 years.
- The average grade for these insurances is a “B”.

Home insurance, a necessity
A high percentage of customers subscribe to multi-risk home insurance.
- 9 out of 10 respondents have a homeowners insurance policy
- 68% of them have reported in the last 5 years.
- 29% intend to change company
