What is personal insurance and why is it so important?

We have been in the brokerage firm for many years, focusing on personal personal insuranceWe have been focusing for many years on personal insurance, that is, insurance designed to protect families, from those we might consider humble to those in which the income may be higher. Each of our clients has different needs, and that is what we are there for, to identify them and choose the policy(ies) that best satisfy them.

What types of insurance are considered “personal”?

When insurance companies create a type of insurance, it is usually because there is a niche of the population that needs it. This is the essence of personal insurance: whether it is to protect your health, your patrimony, or the future financial peace of mind of the family.

Health insurance

They are the ones that have grown the most in recent years, due to the progressive slowness in our Social Security, both for simple consultations and for diagnostic tests or surgeries. With this insurance we speed up the terms, gaining in health, it is true, because there is nothing worse than knowing that you have a problem, but having to wait months to get the test and know the result of the same.

Life insurance

They guarantee an indemnity in case of:

  • Death of the insured: the beneficiaries of this insurance would receive money, destined to finance a better future. Being aware of the family tragedy that this already entails, but avoiding the economic hardship that could be caused by not having this policy.
  • Permanent disability of the insured: in this case, and being aware of the underlying economic loss at the moment of being diagnosed with a disability that prevents us from working forever, the indemnity will help the family so that this person can receive better treatment. It also compensates for the lack of income thereafter.

In a post a few weeks ago, we offered information to help better understand the importance of life insurance and who typically underwrites it.

what is personal insurance

Accident insurance

With a similar purpose to life insurance, they differ in that only the latter cover illness (in addition to the accident). Accident insurance, on the other hand, only guarantees indemnity for death or disability if the contingency that causes it is the accident.

Insurance of subsidies or sick leave

Designed for the self-employed worker. The Social Security benefits, in 90% of the cases, are much lower than in the case of employees (we leave you a post about the reasons to subscribe a sick leave insurance).

Dependency insurance

Designed for middle-aged people, with the advantage that the amount of the premium is tax deductible, just like the contributions to the pension plan. They offer an indemnity if for any reason we are declared with a severe or great dependency.

Death insurance

Death insurance is probably the most widespread of all those mentioned, due to the existing tradition in our country. Like health insurance, funeral insurance is growing year after year. It covers funeral service expenses in the event of the death of one of its policyholders.

Travel insurance

It is also a personal insurance, as it is intended to cover mainly health care expenses incurred abroad.

Of all these insurances, which one is of interest to me?

As we have said, each person and family has its own needs, some of which are more important than others, depending on the economic situation. Logically, the higher the income or economic capacity, the greater the need for insurance: to maintain the family’s standard of living, to facilitate payment of inheritance tax, etc.
